What is the purpose of a security audit?
A security audit reviews how an organisation's people, procedures and systems support its security objectives. Before requesting a proposal, explain which decision the assessment should inform: reviewing an existing site, planning a change in occupancy or identifying priorities for improvement. Agree the boundaries with the assessor so everyone understands what the review will cover.
Define the locations and activities in scope
List the sites, their normal operating hours and any different arrangements for visitors, contractors or out-of-hours work. Identify the site contact who can arrange access and explain daily operations. If some areas or systems are outside the assignment, record those exclusions in the brief rather than assuming they will be reviewed.
Prepare existing documents for an agreed review
Make an inventory of relevant policies, access procedures, training records and previous assessment actions. Ask the assessor which documents are needed and agree an appropriate way to share them. Keep personal information, access credentials, detailed security layouts and incident material out of a general enquiry form. The initial enquiry only needs enough context to scope the discussion.
Agree the report before the visit
Ask how findings will be recorded, how priorities will be explained and whether the report will distinguish observed conditions from information supplied by the client. Confirm who will receive the report and who will discuss the recommendations. A clear deliverable makes it easier to assign follow-up work and compare proposals covering the same scope.
Plan how recommendations will be followed up
Nominate an internal owner to review findings and agree actions with the relevant teams. Record responsibilities, target dates and how completion will be checked. If the assessment identifies a need for workshops or exercises, discuss that as a defined follow-up scope. Metaforce provides security assessments, policy reviews and tailored training; contact the team with your site locations and objectives to discuss suitability.
